MAYUR

The watch is inspired by the magnificent peacock, a symbol of pride and wealth. It is an ancient motif which can be traced back thousands of years, from mentions in rock edicts of Ashoka and seals of the Kushanas to Pahari miniatures.

The floral pattern featured on the dial is painted in the style of medieval court paintings. Encircling the brilliant design which has been achieved through meenakari, are nine red rubies further adding to its visual appeal and charm. It employs Indian jewellery-making techniques along with traditional painting styles.

The elaborate bracelet is representative of peacock feathers, effortlessly tying the design together. The Meluha crown is another allusion to the extravagance of medieval courts and imperial residences.

DESIGN INSPIRATION

Peacock, the national bird of India is one of the most beautiful and majestic creature on the planet. It is a symbol of beauty, nobility, and pride for the Indians.
It has been an important part of the Indian culture from various art forms to mythology and jewelry. From its feathers being worn by Krishna, used as a ride by Kartikeya and being called as Neelkanth which is also a name for Shiva.
Various peacock motifs have been used for generations in textile, paintings, architecture and jewelry. In fact, one of the largest fort of India, the Mehrangarh fort is known as 'Mayurdhwaj Fort' because it looks like an elegant peacock.

The dial draws artistic inspiration from the Pahari and Rajput schools of painting, two renowned art forms deeply rooted in Indian heritage.
The Pahari and Rajput schools of painting, originating in the northern regions of India, are known for their intricate detailing, vibrant colors, and storytelling.
By incorporating traditional Indian art into the design of a modern accessory, the dial pays homage to India's rich cultural legacy while making it accessible to a global audience. It serves as a reminder of the timelessness of these art forms and their ability to adapt to contemporary contexts without losing their essence.

The watch dial, featuring a peacock rendered in meenakari and embellished with rubies set through kundan jadau, is a stunning fusion of traditional Indian craftsmanship and timeless artistry.
Meenakari is a well known process of coloring and painting the top surfaces or bases of ceramics, metals and other such materials, through enameling.
The word can be broken down into two halves and seen as “meena” and “kari”. Mina is a variation of the word “meenu” which is known to mean heaven, or paradise, while “kari” means to do, or to place something on another surface, or something else. Together, the word means to place paradise, or something resembling it, onto an object.
Raja Man Singh of Amer invited skilled artisans of this craft from Lahore to Jaipur, thus initiating this art in the state of Rajasthan. 20th century, the Iranian artists that specialize in this craft were invited to several other regions to train their local artisans and craftsmen.

Kundan jadau jewellery is one of the most beautiful, elegant, and timeless crafts in India. This jewellery, grounded in ancient traditions, achieved perfection by the skilled artists of Rajasthan.
The technique Jadau Involves intricate stone-setting, where precious stones and gems are embedded into gold. Kundan, on the other hand, is the purest form of gold, crafted from 24K gold. It involves integrating glass into the melted gold foils to form its base.
